I'm sorry for the lack of the promised round-up folks. When I wrote the first story, I had forgotten that my college orientation would take up the next two days. So, if you can hang tight for a day or two while I sign up for my classes and junk, I'll pump that round-up out for you guys. I'll try and get as much info into my posts as possible, and still keep them fairly short, because I know I don't usually like reading excessively long blog posts. That being said, I'm going to wrap this one up by saying that I'm really excited about college and getting the heck outta the house!

Update: Also, since hardly anybody is here using the internet, the download speeds are phenomenal! I'm downloading a movie from Rapidshare at 1090 KB/s, that's over 1MB per second!!!!

Since my last blog post, our friends over at Apple have been busy. We're going to talk about three things: OS X 10.5.3, iPhone 3G, and MobileMe. This story will be broken up into three parts, one new part each day. Today I'm going to write about all the changes made in the latest iteration of Leopard 10.5.3; Tomorrow, I'll share my stance on the iPhone 3G as well as all the specs about it. Then on Monday I'll give you the skinny on Apple's "new" service called MobileMe, which Phil Schiller dubbs "Exchange for the rest of us." Keep reading for all the juicy news...

Since my last blog post, our friends over at Apple have been busy. We’re going to talk about three things: OS X 10.5.3, iPhone 3G, and MobileMe. This story will be broken up into three parts, one new part each day. Today I’m going to write about all the changes made in the latest iteration of Leopard 10.5.3; Tomorrow, I’ll share my stance on the iPhone 3G as well as all the specs about it. Then on Monday I’ll give you the skinny on Apple’s “new” service called MobileMe, which Phil Schiller dubbs “Exchange for the rest of us.” Keep reading for all the juicy news…

OS X Leopard 10.5.3
So, Apple’s latest update for the best OS so far is 10.5.3. It was released May 28th, yea, a while ago. Here’s the official notes about the release. I’m not going to post all of the fixes because there are just too many. To check out the entire list, go to the Apple Page.

The 10.5.3 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac.

The only real difference that I’ve noticed in my everyday usage of the OS is related to Spaces. I’m a big multi-tasker while I’m working in Photoshop, and I have it set to open in a specific Space. While I’m working in PS, I will often switch to my first Space to do something in Safari. Before 10.5.3, every time I switched back to my PS space, it would mess up the layout and all the toolbars would be missing. It would take clicking on the desktop, then back on my PS document to get the toolbars back. It wasn’t anything major, just a minor annoyance, but this update fixed that problem.

If you head on over to TUAW's latest iPhone related post, you'll see that they have a little yellow square that shows how man diggs the story has. I have searched on Digg, and I, for the life of me, cannot figure out how in the hell to get that little block into my posts. If someone out there is reading this and you know the secret that I don't, please share.

I'll bet that photo looks familiar. Remember back whenever this little thing hit the interwebs and everybody was saying, "OMG It's the 3G iPhone!!!"... then it turned out to just be a case for the current iPhone? I remember that. I also remember thinking about how badly I wanted that fucking case, even though I didn't have an iPhone. Well, with the upcoming WWDC, and the inevitable release of the 3G iPhone, I'm getting ready to pounce on the sudden price drop of the prev. gen iPhone. Wait, wait, don't tell me how stupid I am for buying old tech. I've thought about this very hard. I will probably never buy the data plan, and I never ever use GPS. I see no reason to buy the next iPhone other than the obvious HD space bump, and that's just not that big of a concern for me. But anyway, I digress. I'm gearing up to buy an iPhone and I thought, "I bet that case would looks super sexy on my iPhone." So I went to the original blog that it was posted at, WinandMac, where they had a link to the site where you could buy the case. I hopped over to the page, but couldn't find the phone anywhere. I got a little frustrated, so I shot an email to the owner of the site concerning the case, and he sent back an email that shocked me! His response indicates that this case is NOT for the current iPhone. Keep reading for the conversation...

Me: Hello, I am contacting you to ask if you still sell the all black iPhone case? If you do, I would also like to know if you ship internationally.

Shop Owner: Hi Jake, kindly confirm the black iphone case with photo, coz there are two black iphone case for sell. - we do ship all mac parts international.

Me: [Pictures of Case] The case would fit an 8GB iPhone tightly, correct?

SO: we are so sorry to tell u that these item won’t be able to fit on any iphone in the market.

Me: Are you telling me that the case is made for an item that isn’t available yet?

SO: yes, u are right.

I know his english and grammar isn’t great, but it’s a Chinese shop that supposedly sells these. I don’t know about you guys, but that sounds like it’s a case or maybe a replacement case for the newest iPhone that will be hitting the shelves in June. Also, I may be looking too deeply into it, but he says that they ship all PARTS internationally, so it could be a replacement kit, but who knows.

When my sister asked me what I wanted as a graduation gift, it took me a while to come up with anything other than that sweet smelling green paper. But eventually my mind lingered away from money and clung to something that I had seen a while back on one of my favorite tech news sites, Gizmodo. On May 9 they wrote a short little snippet about a neat looking backpack for your precious notebook, macbook in my case. You can view their story here. So, I told my sister that I wanted this neat-o macbook backpack. The first thing I did was strap it on my back, and take some pretty keen photos! Keep reading for some details and pictures.

So, when I slipped this bad boy over my shoulders and fastened the chest strap, It instantly just felt right. This thing is manufactured to curve with your back, so it feels like it’s barely there. Not only does it curve with your back, though. The straps around your shoulders and chest are also form fitting, so it almost looks like this backpack forms to the shape of your body!

Ok, let’s talk space. The main pouch will hold my 13.3″ Macbook, with about 3-4 inches of space above it. There’s also room for a couple folders or books in there. On the right side of the bag is a zipper that opens up to reveal a second pouch with equal amounts of space, I’m guessing THIS is for your books and what-not. On the left shoulder strap is a zipper for a small pouch the size of a cell phone. The hole is tall enough for an iPhone, but I don’t think it’s quite wide enough. I don’t currently own an iPhone *sad face*. The bag is made of a slick neoprene type material that is water resistant, which is perfect for riding your bike to class on rainy days.

Now that that’s out of the way, feast upon these tasty photos I took for you guys.

Btw, you can buy the backpack here.

I've started a new personal project today. It came to me at random, but I loved the idea. I've started making my own little book bank. I'm cutting rectangles out of the pages of a book in my room to store money. Now, since I'm posting this up on my website, it's not much of a secret hiding place, but that isn't the point. The point was just to have a place to have money outside my wallet. There's really nobody that read my blog anyways :P For details and pictures read after the jump...

I’m calling the little project “Book Keepr.” Look how Web 2.0 I am!!!! Anyways, pictured below are my tools. I use the little cloth to protect my finger against the edge of the blade. I haven’t a handle for the blades, so I’m just doing it by hand. After I get a sufficient amount of pages cut, I’ll go back and glue them together so that it is like a box.

For lack of a better thing to write about today, I'll post up a preview of my Nintendo 64 Icon that I've been working on. This thing is getting near it's finishing stages, but it's been difficult to find time to work on it. This thing is on its way, though.

Believe it or not, I actually like this one. "What is that trend?" you might ask? Well, it is putting DVD covers inside of a DVD case, and making that the icon for your movies. That way it looks like you're shuffling through a real library of DVDs in CoverFlow. Over at MacThemes there are a couple people with templates, but nobody has released theirs yet. I took the template provided by the gracious Laurent Baumann and stretched it out to make it into a DVD Case. I've saved that .PSD and I'm releasing it here today. Hopefully I've got permission from Laurent. When he posted the PSD, he said, "Here is a resource I made. You can use it wherever you want (icon, skin, etc), as soon as you credit me ," So I hope I'm ok. Hit the jump to see the icons in action and a Download Link.
